Blasts and Low-Altitude Aircraft Witnessed in Venezuela's Capital City Caracas

Accounts surfaced of numerous detonations and the sound of low-flying planes in Caracas in the early hours of Saturday morning. The situation has prompted allegations from the Venezuelan government and requests for global scrutiny.

Venezuela Condemns US of Aggression

The incumbent regime has condemned the United States of committing "foreign aggression," stating that former President Trump allegedly authorized military strikes against the Latin American nation. In an public announcement, the authorities confirmed that attacks had hit Caracas and three other provinces: Miranda state, La Guaira state, and Aragua state.

"Our primary goal of these strikes is to take control of Venezuela's key assets, notably its oil and mineral wealth," the government said.

Caracas appealed to the international community to censure the strikes, which it described a "flagrant violation of international norms" that placed numerous of civilians in peril.

Accounts of Blasts and Military Sites Hit

Locals reported feeling approximately multiple explosions around 2:00 AM in the morning. Citizens in various neighborhoods allegedly hurried into the streets.

"The whole ground shook. This is terrifying. We heard explosions and aircraft in the distance," commented one resident.

Black smoke was observed billowing from major army bases in the city: the La Carlota airbase airfield and the Fuerte Tiuna army base, where leader Maduro is reported to live.

Global Condemnation

The leader of bordering Colombia, Gustavo Petro, claimed on a social platform that "Right now they are bombing Caracas... bombing it with projectiles." He demanded an urgent meeting of the UN Security Council.

Colombia, which just joined the UNSC, announced it would activate defense protocols at its border with its neighbor.

Preceding Events

The alleged attacks are preceded by a prolonged pressure campaign by the United States against the Maduro government. Beginning in August, authorities reported a major US military deployment off the country's northern coast and a number of air strikes on vessels linked to narco-trafficking.

Venezuela's government has stated "a state of external disturbance" and ordered all national defense measures to be activated. It has also called on its political forces to mobilize and "repudiate this foreign attack."

The White House and the US Department of Defense have not immediately addressed inquiries for clarification regarding the reports.
