A woman indicted with pursuing Kate McCann reportedly deposited her a recorded message which questioned: "what if I am Madeleine?"

Julia Wandelt, 24, who witnesses stated has persistently asserted she was the vanished Madeleine McCann, and Karen Spragg are on trial accused with pursuing Kate and Gerry McCann from June 2022 and February this year.

On Monday, Leicester Crown Court heard phone records and data recovered from phones logged Ms Wandelt persistently requesting Madeleine's mother for a genetic test throughout that period.

Madeleine's case in 2007 - when she was three years old during a vacation in Portugal - is considered the most covered investigations and remains unsolved.

'I Don't Want Money'

One phone message, played in court, recorded Ms Wandelt saying: "I realize I'm fat and unattractive like Madeleine was, but I believe what I believe."

While a separate message of Ms Wandelt's one-way conversations with Mrs McCann's recording expressed: "Imagine there is a tiny probability that I am Madeleine? Then what? Isn't that important for you?"

"I do not need money, I have a existence here in Poland, I simply desire to understand," the recording stated.

The panel was told that via electronic messages, text messages and phone calls, Ms Wandelt requested a genetic test, sent early photographs to her phone in a effort to demonstrate a resemblance to Mrs McCann's disappeared daughter, and stated to have "recollections" from a youth with the McCanns.

Robert Jones, an investigator with law enforcement who collated the information, informed the court there "showed no any answers" from Mrs McCann.

Ms Wandelt furthermore communicated with family friends of the McCanns, as per the phone records.

On October 9th, 2024, Mr McCann picked up a communication from Ms Wandelt to his wife's phone, saying she had "a wrong number."

That day Ms Wandelt recorded a recording on Mrs McCann's voicemail stating "I won't give up and I will prove my claim."

The court was informed Mrs Spragg established a relationship online with Ms Wandelt prior to joining her on a trip to the McCanns' property in that area in last December.

Call logs revealed Mrs Spragg had reached out via WhatsApp to Mrs McCann to state the news outlets had characterized Ms Wandelt as "emotionally disturbed" but that she should be taken seriously in the time preceding the trip to Rothley, Leicestershire, in last December.

The court learned message exchanges between the two defendants, in that autumn, considering attempting to get Mrs McCann's genetic material from her garbage or from cutlery at a dining venue.

"We must take action," the co-defendant told Ms Wandelt.

On the evening of the trip to their house, the defendant transmitted a communication which expressed: "We find ourselves sitting outside the McCanns' residence with our headlights off similar to investigators. I wanted to accomplish this with Peter Andrew I hadn't anticipated I would be involved in this with the McCanns."
